Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp neutral cooking oil
  • 8 – 15 chiles güeros
  • 1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 – 2 tsp Tajín, to taste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a medium-sized skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the chiles güeros and fry until charred on all sides, about 4 – 5 minutes.
  • Transfer the chiles to a small mixing bowl.
  • Toss with soy sauce, lime juice, Tajín, salt, and pepper until well coated.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Fry with care—chiles may pop and sputter in the hot oil.
  • For extra flavor, smash each chile slightly with a spoon before serving.
  • You can also add a splash of vinegar for a tangier kick.
  • These pair great with grilled meats or a simple plate of beans and rice.
  • Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
