Hi — my name is Stephanie Alvarado! But in elementary school kids gave me the nickname Stephanie Avocado, or just Avocado, hence the handle name — @thisisavocado_.
I’m a first-gen Salvadoran-Guatemalan American, born and raised in Southern California, and a self-taught home cook, content creator, and lover of all things food. I started This Is Avocado in late 2020 as a creative outlet to share my love for food, culture, and all the little memories that come with a good, home-cooked meal.
My love for cooking started early — helping my mom in the kitchen with Salvadoran, Guatemalan, and Mexican staples or curled up on the couch binge-watching Iron Chef America on Saturday nights. But it wasn’t until I moved out at 18 and had to cook for myself every day that I really started to experiment and fall in love with the process of whipping up something delicious.
Everything I share here is a blend of nostalgia, creativity, and flavor — from childhood favorites to new dishes I’ve come across and fallen for along the way.
