Servings: 6 servings
- 8 ripe kiwis peeled and chopped
- 6 cups cold water
- ½ - ¾ cup sugar adjust to taste
- Juice of 2 limes
- 1 tbsp chia seeds optional
- Ice for serving
- Fresh kiwi slices for garnish
Add the chopped kiwis, 2 cups of water, sugar, and lime juice to a blender. Blend for 8–10 seconds, just until smooth. Avoid over-blending to keep the kiwi seeds from breaking down too much, which can result in a murky color.
Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher for a smoother texture, using a spoon to help push the liquid through if needed.
Stir in the chia seeds and the remaining water. Refrigerate for 15–20 minutes to allow the chia seeds to hydrate and plump up.
Give the drink another good stir before serving. Pour over ice and garnish with fresh kiwi slices. Enjoy!
- Choose ripe kiwis – The sweeter and softer the kiwi, the better the flavor and natural sweetness of your agua fresca. Slightly wrinkled skin is a good sign of ripeness.
- Don’t overblend – A quick blend (8–10 seconds) is all you need. Overblending will crush the kiwi seeds, which can cause bitterness and a duller, murky green color.
- Strain for smoothness – Use a fine-mesh sieve to remove excess pulp and seeds for a more refined and visually appealing drink.
- Chill before serving – Letting the drink rest in the fridge allows the chia seeds to fully hydrate and the flavors to meld together for a more refreshing sip.
- Customize the sweetness – Start with ½ cup of sugar, taste, and adjust. If your kiwis are extra sweet, you may need less sugar—or swap in honey or agave for a different twist.
