Guava Strawberry Agua Fresca

This fresh agua fresca blends ripe guava and strawberries with a spoonful of guava jam for extra depth, then gets strained into a pitcher with cold water and lime for a light, naturally sweet drink that's perfect by the glass or by the pitcher. Chill it until ice cold and serve it up, it goes fast!

Ingredients

For the Agua Fresca:

  • 6 fresh guavas, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and roughly chopped
  • 2 tbsp guava jam or fruit spread
  • 6 cups cold water, divided
  • ½ – ¾ cup sugar or agave, to taste
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice

For Serving:

  • Ice
  • Fresh guava slices, for garnish
  • Fresh chopped strawberries, for garnish
  • Lime wheels, for garnish

Instructions

  • Add the chopped fresh guavas, strawberries, guava jam, sugar, lime juice, and 2 cups of cold water to a blender and blend on high until completely smooth.
  • Pour through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher, pressing firmly on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.
  • Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water and stir to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.
  • Refrigerate until completely cold before serving — at least 30 minutes. Serve over ice garnished with fresh guava slices, fresh chopped strawberries, and lime wheels.

Notes

  • The guava jam adds body and rounds out the sweetness so you don’t have to rely entirely on added sugar.
  • Press the solids firmly through the sieve to get every bit of flavor and juice out before discarding.
  • Taste before chilling and lean slightly sweeter than you think since cold dulls sweetness, so it’ll taste less sweet once it’s fully chilled.
  • Make this a few hours ahead and let it sit in the fridge. The flavor deepens and mellows as it chills, and it tastes better after resting than freshly blended.
