Ingredients

  • 2 slices of toast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 2 tbsp marinara sauce
  • 1 cup freshly shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3 slices sopressata
  • 1/2 – 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 – 4 tsp hot honey
  • Fresh basil

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Brush both sides of the toast slices with olive oil.
  • Place toast on a sheet pan and bake for 5 – 6 minutes, until lightly toasted but not yet golden.
  • Rub the garlic clove on one side of each slice (the topping side).
  • Spread marinara sauce evenly over the garlic-rubbed sides.
  • Top each slice with mozzarella, sopressata, and red pepper flakes.
  • Return to the oven and bake for another 8 – 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted.
  • Remove from the oven and drizzle generously with hot honey.
  • Finish with torn fresh basil and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use sourdough or rustic bread for sturdier, crispier results.
  • Try different hot honeys (chili-infused or habanero) for unique heat levels.
  • For vegetarian, omit sopressata and add sautéed mushrooms or olives.
  • Add a pinch of flaky salt after baking to enhance all the flavors.
  • This is also great topped with a fried or poached egg for brunch.
