I’m still using my mama’s pizza toast idea and creating updated versions of it! It all started with the Margherita Pizza Bites and today we’re whipping up these Hot Honey Prosciutto Pizza Bites. I also have another vegetarian pizza bite recipe coming your way soon, so follow along and keep an eye out for that recipe!

Adding the prosciutto and hot honey to the pizza bites

There are a lot of really great flavors and textures that come to play with these bites—you get the saltiness from the prosciutto, the creaminess of the melted mozzarella, the sweet and spiciness of the hot honey, the crisp toast and the slight freshness from the arugula to round it all out.

Also, this recipe is a 2-for-1! Use this hot honey recipe to drizzle over crispy fried chicken, pizza, chicken wings/fingers, bbq, salmon, popcorn shrimp, charcuterie boards, sauces and glazes, salad dressings and even cocktails!

Topping off the freshly baked pizza bites with fresh arugula

How to Make These Hot Honey Prosciutto Pizza Bites:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Lay the quartered bread slices onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and toast In the oven for 5 minutes.
  3. While the bread is toasting, pour the honey, ACV, chili flakes, dried chili and cayenne powder to a small pot over medium-low heat. Warm through for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour into a separate container to cool and set aside.
  4. Once the bread is lightly toasted, add an individual slice of mozzarella to each toast, then layer on half a slice of prosciutto on each and pop back into the oven for 4 minutes.
  5. Lower the baking sheet to the lowest oven rack and broil on high for 2 and a half minutes.
  6. Next, spoon over the hot honey on each, crack a little pepper and add a leaf or two of arugula on each pizza bite.
  7. Plate and serve with additional hot honey. Best eaten immediately.

Hot Honey Prosciutto Pizza Bites – Tips & Tricks

  • For a deliciously crispy pizza bite, use a sturdy bread! My favorite to use is Food is Life’s Ezekiel Bread because it’s sturdy enough to hold it’s shape when baked with the toppings and it crisps up perfectly in the oven.
  • The key to heating the honey so that the chilies perfectly infuse is to heat it on medium-low heat and stir constantly. Otherwise, if the heat is any higher or if you forget to stir entirely, the honey will cook and turn into a hard sticky mess in the end!
  • These pizza bites are best enjoyed immediately, but if you happen to have leftovers I recommend storing them in an airtight container and reheating them on a parchment-lined baking sheet in the oven at 400 degrees for about 3-4 minutes! They’ll keep in the fridge for about 2-3 days.
